Many years ago, businesses could only maintain their presence in traditional markets by having a shop in a good location near the main busy roads that passing visitors would see. Times have definitely changed since then and now simply having a website designed and hosted is not enough. It needs to generate revenue by converting just visitors into actual buyers.
You need to look at your website from the perspective of a professional business person. Having a website involves great investment and every investment should be justified and assuring returns. A website that doesn’t generate any return is just a financial loss.
Before you get contacting a web design company, there are some key issues you should consider:
Compatibility:
When a visitor to your website clicks on the link to the website it should load up very quickly. This speed is dependent on the coding that was used to make the website. The speed also depends on the technology that used whilst embedding the visual content on the site. A slight delay in loading your web page can actually lead to a lot of loss, due to the fact that a lot of people are busy and don’t have time to wait around for it load.
Impression:
Your website is like your shop window, so the first impression is highly important . Your website needs to be appealing to the visitor, to such an extent that they feel the site has been designed with them in mind, to satisfy their needs. It should not appear that your site has been designed to simply get rid of the products or services.
Navigation:
The ideal website should be both appealing and simple at the same time. Once your visitor finds your website they should be able to easily find the page with the information on that they want, in as little clicks as possible. This is the reason that many sites put the product information on the final pages, on the second or third layer.
Unique:
Your website needs to be original to be effective. If you simply copy another website or copy information from another website, your customers will soon notice and this will give a very unprofessional and unreliable view of your company. Also if you copy information from another site, search engines will not see your website with any favor and may penalise you for doing so.
Color combination:
The colour scheme is actually very important on a website. It should make the visitor feel comfortable and not distract them from the information or make the information illegible. A light coloured background is found to be preferred over a dark coloured background. The dark backgrounds have been found to prove irritating to visitors.
Search Engine Optimisation:
Your websites revenue can be maximized by maximising the traffic to the website. This can be done so by applying techniques for what is known as ‘search engine optimisation’ and by making your website search engine friendly. Tips to help with this include using right key words, in coming and out going links in the website and by using keyword phrases.
